AYN's product copy lists Dragonwing Q8, 7-inch 120Hz AMOLED, Android 15, 9000mAh, Hall sticks, 450g, UFS 3.1, and early-November shipping. Retro Handhelds filled in resolution, PPI, dimensions, Hall triggers, and DisplayPort. Android Authority added rear paddles and the $20 launch cut. All ten Shopify variants (four storage tiers × Black/White/Cold Grey, with Base Black-only on the 12+128 SKU) were listed at those promo prices on October 26 (AYN .js cart).
There is no 24GB Ultra. Retro Handhelds called the 1TB Max the top SKU for now.
What $399 actually buys vs Odin 3
The Odin 3 Base is $369 for 8GB/128GB on a 6-inch 120Hz AMOLED, 8,000mAh, 390g. Portal Base is $30 more, starts at 12GB, and moves you to a 7-inch panel and a 9,000mAh pack. Same Q8. Same Android 15. Same 60W. Same UFS 3.1 on current store SKUs.
Buy Odin 3 if 390g and a 6-inch slab are the point. Preorder Portal if you want the Odin 2 Portal shell with Elite-class silicon and can wait until November. Last year's 7-inch 8 Gen 2 machine is the Odin 2 Portal; this is that layout with Q8, 1,000mAh more battery, and 60W instead of 27W (Retro Handhelds spec table).
AYANEO Pocket S2 is still $439 / $499 on paper and still sold out on Shopify. Portal is the Q8 7-inch that actually has a cart.
Should you preorder?
Preorder Base at $399 if a 7-inch 120Hz OLED and 12GB RAM are why you skipped the 6-inch Odin 3. Spend $479 on Pro if 256GB is the storage floor you actually use. Skip the 1TB Max unless you already know you want 16GB plus a terabyte of UFS 3.1 — that SKU is $669.
