Portal dimensions, PPI, and the Odin 2 Portal comparison row come from Retro Handhelds' October 22 table. AYN's own Portal copy is Q8, 7-inch 120Hz AMOLED, 9000mAh, Hall sticks, 450g, UFS 3.1. AYN's Odin 3 copy is Q8, 6-inch 120Hz AMOLED, 8000mAh, 390g, UFS 3.1. Do not treat those as review scores. Portal has no independent reviews yet.

Price math

Portal Base costs $30 more than Odin 3 Base and includes 4GB more RAM. Pro vs Pro is $10 ($479 vs $469) at the same 12GB/256GB. Max vs Max is $20 ($549 vs $529) at 16GB/512GB. Portal adds a 1TB Max at $669; Odin 3's 24GB/1TB Ultra is $569 and was sold out on October 26.

If you already decided on Q8, the 7-inch tax is small at Pro and Max. The $30 Base gap is mostly "do you accept 8GB on 6 inches, or pay for 12GB on 7 inches."

Who should buy which

Buy Odin 3 if pocketability is the feature: 390g, 6-inch, already on the cart. That is the machine from the September price hike.

Preorder Portal if you want the 7-inch 16:9 slab, 9,000mAh, and 12GB without jumping to Odin 3 Pro money. Wait if you need a review of the grips, fan, and 7-inch 1080p sharpness. Retro Handhelds noted AYN kept the Odin 2 Portal design and is selling a TPU grip to fix ergonomics.

Stay on Odin 2 Portal only if you already own one and 8 Gen 2 is enough. The new Portal is the same 7-inch idea with Q8, 1,000mAh extra, 60W, and Wi-Fi 7 / BT 6.0. It is not a dual-screen; that is still AYN Thor.

Retroid Pocket 6 remains the cheaper 8 Gen 2 Android if Q8 money is the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Odin 3 Portal more powerful than the Odin 3?

No. Both use Dragonwing Q8 and Adreno 830. Portal is larger, heavier, and has a bigger battery. Performance parity is a spec-sheet claim until reviews land.

Why is Portal Base 12GB when Odin 3 Base is 8GB?

That is how AYN priced the carts on October 26. Portal has no 8GB SKU. The $399 Base is 12GB/128GB UFS 3.1.

Should I wait for Odin 3 Portal reviews?

Yes if $399 is a lot of money for an untested 7-inch shell. Preorder if you already liked the Odin 2 Portal layout and only wanted Q8 plus 60W. AYN has not published a review-unit ship date beyond "early November."

How does Portal compare to the Odin 2 Portal?

Same 7-inch 1080p 120Hz class. Portal upgrades the chip to Q8, battery to 9,000mAh, charging to 60W, and Bluetooth to 6.0, and adds about 20g (Retro Handhelds).

Does the Odin 3 Portal play PC games?

It ships Android 15, not Windows or SteamOS. PC titles need Android ports, Winlator/GameNative-class layers, or cloud streaming. Retro Handhelds mentioned DroidDeck and Armada as the reason some people want the 1TB SKU. Those apps are not a substitute for a Steam Deck OLED.
