Anbernic unveiled the RG DDS on October 9, 2026: a New 3DS-shaped clamshell with two custom IPS panels, Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, a 6,000mAh pack, active fan cooling, and a built-in retractable stylus. There is no store listing, OS, RAM SKU, or ship date. Notebookcheck and Android Authority still say price is unannounced. Retro Handhelds quoted Anbernic representative Wild Lee as "300ish with 8GB" in the RH Discord — treat that as a rumor until Anbernic.com has a cart (Anbernic first look, Retro Handhelds, Notebookcheck, Android Authority, RetroDodo).

Anbernic's own post is screen-and-silicon first. Do not copy RetroSpecd's guessed Wi-Fi 7, Hall sticks, or $299.99 list into a buy decision — those are not on the first-look page.

What G2 Gen 2 actually means

Notebookcheck puts Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 in the same class as the Retroid Pocket G2 and ahead of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the AYN Thor. Retro Handhelds cites community Geekbench/AnTuTu tables showing G2 Gen 2 roughly 20% above Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 (the Pocket Duo's Q-7790) on Geekbench and closer to 50% on AnTuTu. That is a paper comparison, not a 3DS/PS2 frame-time test.

The screens are the other half of the pitch. 1200x720 on 5:3 and 960x720 on 4:3 are exact 3x 3DS framebuffer sizes. The RG DS Plus already did 4x integer DS at $94.99 with RK3568. DDS is the 3DS-sized follow-up with a flagship Snapdragon, two sticks, and a fan.

Buy Duo if you want a cart today, 120Hz OLEDs, and a mid-October ship window. Wait on DDS only if the 3DS silhouette, 3x integer IPS, and G2 Gen 2 at a real ~$300 listing are the point. Buy Thor if the device has to exist this week at 8 Gen 2. Duo Lite Plus is the $199 Q-7790 TFT fallback.

Should you wait?

Do not cancel a Pocket Duo preorder for a Discord price. Wait if you specifically want a 3DS-shaped Anbernic and can tolerate no OS, no SKU, and no date. Everyone else: pick a shipping dual-screen in the picker.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much will the Anbernic RG DDS cost?

Anbernic has not listed a price. Retro Handhelds reported Anbernic rep Wild Lee saying "300ish with 8GB." Notebookcheck and Android Authority still mark price and date unknown.

What chip is in the RG DDS?

Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2, with an internal fan. That is the chip family Retroid used in the Pocket G2. Anbernic has not published RAM/storage SKUs.

Does the RG DDS play 3DS at integer scale?

The panels are sized for 3x integer 3DS (1200x720 and 960x720). Whether Citra/Lime3DS holds that at full speed is untested. G2 Gen 2 on paper is in the right class; there are no review units.

Should I buy the Retroid Pocket Duo or wait for RG DDS?

Buy Duo now if dual 120Hz AMOLED at $249 through October 31 is enough. Wait for DDS if you want a 3DS-shaped IPS clamshell and can live with TBA price and date. They are not the same product.

When does the RG DDS ship?

Anbernic has not announced a date or opened a cart. Secondary roundups have floated December; that is not an official window.
