Rank a mixed library in the picker or compare any pair. Launch notes: DDS preorder, Duo preorder. Budget DS still sits on the RG DS Plus.

Who wins which job

OLED dual-screen this month. Buy Duo. Dual 120Hz AMOLED, analog triggers, 350g, $249, October 21. That is the device that exists on a holiday calendar.

3DS-shaped integer IPS. Preorder DDS. The panels match 3x 3DS, the stylus lives in the shell, and G2 Gen 2 is the stronger paper chip versus Q-7790. You wait until December and you pay $36 more on 8GB.

Cheaper Q-7790. Duo Lite Plus is $199 with LITEPLUS through October 31 in the 60Hz TFT Lite shell, mid-November. Same silicon as Duo, worse screens.

Shipping 8 Gen 2 dual-screen. AYN Thor. Neither DDS nor Duo is that.

Linux DS under $100. RG DS Plus at $94.99. Not Android, not 3DS.

Verdict

Pay $249 for Duo if you want two 120Hz OLEDs in your hands in October. Pay $285 for DDS if a New 3DS clamshell with G2 Gen 2 is why you waited, and you accept a December 10 start date. Do not buy DDS to "beat" Duo on screens — you will not. Do not buy Duo to get a 3DS-native panel pair — you will not. Full stack: RG DS Plus vs Duo family.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Anbernic RG DDS more powerful than the Retroid Pocket Duo?

On paper, yes. Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 is the chip family Retroid used in the Pocket G2 and sits above Q-7790 in community Geekbench/AnTuTu tables Retro Handhelds cited. There are no review-unit frame times for either dual-screen SKU yet.

Which one ships first?

Pocket Duo, October 21, 2026, per Retroid's community manager and Notebookcheck. RG DDS starts December 10. GoRetroid's Duo page still says "mid-October."

Is the RG DDS worth $285 when Duo is $249?

Yes if 3x integer 3DS IPS, a stylus, and G2 Gen 2 are the features you will actually use. No if 120Hz AMOLED and a unit this month are why you are shopping. The $36 gap is real; the screen tech gap is larger.

Does the RG DDS have OLED screens?

No. Both panels are 500-nit IPS. Duo is the OLED clamshell.

Should I wait for the AYN Odin 3 Portal instead?

No. AYN posted a teaser on October 13 with no chip, screen, price, or date. That is a watchlist item, not a cart. Shop Duo, DDS, or Thor.
