China-warehouse SKUs were in stock on October 19. Matching US-warehouse variants were listed at the same prices and marked unavailable (Anbernic Shopify). Retro Handhelds' October 15 leak had the 8GB pre-sale at $264.99; the live cart is $284.99. Use the store, not the leak.
What $285 actually buys vs Duo
The Pocket Duo is still $249 with code DUO ($269 list) for dual 120Hz AMOLED (5.5" 1080p + 4.5" 960p), Q-7790, and an October 21 ship date. DDS costs $36 more on the 8GB SKU, waits until December, and uses 60Hz IPS — but it is the 3DS-shaped shell with G2 Gen 2, a stylus, and 3x integer panels. Notebookcheck called DDS expensive against Duo on screens; the chip is the other half of the bet (Notebookcheck).
Buy Duo if OLED and a unit this month are the point. Preorder DDS if you want a New 3DS clamshell and can wait. AYN Thor remains the shipping 8 Gen 2 dual-screen. RG DS Plus is the $94.99 Linux DS specialist, not a substitute.
Should you preorder?
Preorder 8GB at $284.99 if 3DS integer scaling in an Anbernic clamshell is why you waited. Spend $349.99 on 12GB only if you want the extra RAM for Android apps.
